Freaky Friday News AND a new bit of artwork - a stylised Catwoman sketch

Catwoman fan art by Daniel Grant Newton (DGN Productions)
Hey there!!

Hope you've had a fantastic week and are getting pumped for an awesome weekend.

Any less and I would be disappointed ;-)

Two things.  First, I wanted to share with you this Catwoman drawing I did this week. And second, I've got some new news (more on that below).

But first, the pic. It is a stylised version of Catwoman, a version that I feel I made my own, but with a touch of inspiration from the comics, and perhaps a sprinkle of inspiration from the Adam West Batman series.  Oh, and a large helping of inspiration from actual real cats.

That is, the ones that purr, lick themselves and drink milk, not the ones from the cast of an Andrew Lloyd Webber production, or ones that play blues music in a dingy bar.  Although, now that I think of it, I'm not certain the latter two cats do not practice the same activities as the former.

Oh, and as a side note, there's 10 points for anyone who can spot Batman in the pic.

50 Points if you can tell me what Catwoman has to do with Freaky Freaky Fridays.  That one is for the hardcore follower I think!

So what's the big news already.  Tell us, tell us.  (Jeez, alright.  I'm so impatient with myself some times.)

Well, a Freaky Freaky Fridays Crossover is in the works!!
The Freaky Freaky Fridays and Doctor Who crossover that never happened.

No, not with Doctor Who, although that would be totally cool, but with the very talented and funny artist from Boston, Pebbles, and her zany characters Nik and Mike.

And what an honour it'll be!!

(UPDATE: You can read the crossover now by clicking here. Woot woot!)

You can check out Pebble's artwork and characters here: http://www.pebbsartplayground.com

Anyway, the story and artwork we are creating for you is off ... the ... hook!

But you'll just have to wait, because we are still in production.

In the meantime I'll be sure to share with you cool stuff as it develops.

Your friend Daniel

'Hooded Hero on a Longboat' by Daniel Grant Newton

Hey hey hey!!

I am in love... in love with this new program I found for my iPad called Procreate.  Yes, interesting name I know, but cool program.

Essentially you can use your stylus pen to paint, draw and create, and it is AWE-SOME-NESS.

I'm still getting used to it, mind you the learning curve is not as sharp as I would've expected, but I thought I'd share the very first image I painted after buying the program last night.

'Hooded Hero on a Longboat' by Daniel Grant Newton

This picture is of a hooded hero sailing into the misty unknown on his longboat, sword drawn ready for anything that may lurk ahead, and cape caught in the mysterious wind.

I hope you enjoyed the pic and my over enthusiasm!  And if you are an artist or want to really get into art, do your research because there might be better programs out there, but I do highly highly recommend checking Procreate out as part of that research.

Your friend on the edge of Freaky,

Daniel

He-Man Shakespeare parody mash-up ... fan art by Daniel Grant Newton (DGN Productions)

A little known fact (that I just made up), He-Man (or Prince Adam) was in the original cast who performed William Shakespeare's Hamlet.  Here is a picture I drew to prove it. - Daniel

He-Man holds up Skeletor's skull and delivers the famous lines from Shakespeare's Hamlet.

BONUS: Freaky Freaky Fridays' Bee Comic by Daniel Grant Newton

Hello there!

Hope you're having a great Friday.  If you've been missing the Freaky Freaky Fridays since the season finale ... sorry, what I mean to say is because you've been missing the Freaky Freaky Fridays... I am going to share with you a FFF comic strip I created for Meli Magazine.

The brief was to educate people about why bees are important.  Which I translated as make huge talking bees that have the power to shrink themselves and people.

Luckily the people down at Meli Magazine happen to be a little quirky crazy too and they loved my comic enough to invite me back to create a second one (that continues on from the first).

And I reckon if a few more people let them know they liked it, they'd probably get me to do another one.  My next one I've planned will be epic... oh, and educational about bees.

So if you like this, feel free to send Meli Magazine this message on Twitter:

Hey @melimagazine, loved Daniel's bee comics! Are we getting more? #MoreFreakyBeesPlease

They totally don't know I've sent you, so all the more funny!  Anyway, if you'd like, you can check out their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/melimagazinetv

And if you'd like to re-live the adventure that was Freaky Freaky Fridays season 1, click here.

Your friend that does the freaky comic thing,

Daniel
