Empty Savanna - A Portrait of Humanity - Poem by Daniel Grant Newton

Empty Savanna - A Portrait of Humanity
By Daniel Grant Newton

Bars up and down.
Crowds up and down.
Gawking. Pointing. Gasping. Walking.
At night, I pine for Savanna.

Empty up and down.
Ghosts of gazelles abound.
And distant hyena howls.
By day, savanna roars for my return.

It has made an elephant graveyard out of me.
