Rough compositional sketch in my sketch pad

This was my first layer on the canvas.
I decided against rain.

Here I added in details, and dulled the colours.

Finally I increased the shadows and lighting.

What? Hitler Getting Paint in the Face??

Yep, that's Hitler getting paint in the face and melting like the Wicked Witch of the West.  

I painted this painting for the front cover of my first comic in an oh so exciting series that will be released soon, and before that be showcased in an art gallery opening on August 13th (details to follow).  

Want to know what my comic is going to be about?  All will be revealed over the coming weeks :-)

A new painting this week.  I had the progress photos for this painting, but they mysteriously disappeared.  Maybe they are on the other side of a magic wall.  Maybe they slipped through the slits of time and space.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this painting, and it stimulates you to think and to imagine and to grow.  Yes, that is quite a hope, but let me let you in on a secret.  I hope all my artwork and stories inspires you to stimulate your imagination, growth and thinking.  That's the sort of big time dreamer I am.

(That goodbye sounded a little more serious on paper than I had hoped.  I was looking for a passing gesture of momentary separation, perhaps like we were talking at a party and somebody passed between us, breaking the conversation, but only for a moment before we cheerily come back to where we left off.  

Not the teary farewell at the train station where one runs after a train through the bellowing smoke with a hanky waving in the air, trying to savour each curve and angle of the other's face to play in one's imagination until next time.  That was not the send off I was going for.

Hey my blog friend!

Thought I'd share with you a new painting I was commissioned to do by a lovely lady for her daughter's 21st.  

Her daughter loves owls and is going overseas for the very first time (and is especially looking forward to exploring New York), so I painted her daughter riding an owl past the Statue of Liberty.

What I love about this painting is the sense of freedom, magic and wonder we have in life, and especially when we are blessed enough to travel to a distant land (like New York for Aussies!).
